The Employment Opportunity Center is a job training program designed to equip and empower young adults (18-24 years of age) to pursue employment and career goals through paid work opportunities, coaching, supportive case management and career exploration. Our vision is to open Employment Opportunity Centers in collaboration with each of the neighborhood resource center sites sponsored by OCS’s affiliate, Outreach Community Ministries, Inc.
Employment Opportunity Centers have four components:
Classroom training in remedial education/GED studies, employment soft skills, basic computer skills, life skills and character development.
A paid internship, 25-30 hours per week at a social enterprises or community service site, giving students on-the-job work experience.
A four-month, paid internship in the private sector in an industry of interest for the student.
Placement in permanent employment at either the internship site or in a related position, or enrollment in an apprenticeship program, technical school or junior college to access higher-skilled employment and career opportunities.
Summer youth employment services are offered by OCS for high school students ages 15-18 at Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, a neighborhood resource center site operated by our affiliate, Outreach Community Ministries, Inc. Youth employment training for high school students has three components:
Classroom training in employment soft skills.
Year round after-school academic support to retain high school enrollment.
Summer internships within the organization in year one and in a private sector business, civic or non-profit organization in year two.
With capacity for 35 students, this program achieves a 95% successful performance rate with on-the-job internships and a 100% high school retention and graduation rate.
